Quentin Crisp

“Equal is a dead word - nether take as your object in life the desire to be other peoples equal - once you have entered the profession of being you have become a professor of a subject of which you are the only living authority - what other people do with their life with their style will not matter - in fact every morning you should say to yourselves preferably aloud “other people are a mistake” - no I withdraw that remark it might be thought sweeping, say to yourself “Concern with other people is a mistake”. Now I know this is not what most people teach you, but I am trying to spare you the mutual scramble for self sacrifice

Aulturism is a debilitating, fragmenting process, but the constant watch over and the perfection of your idea of yourself - and - the presentation of it gift wrapped to others - that is a unifying and invigorating way of life and it caries with it a built-in invitation to the party at the end of the world - that glittering function at which everybody will be speaking and nobody will be listening, and if your armed with your style - you will be able to run towards the happy hub-ub with out the faintest fear that you may be out of your depth - with out the faintest doubt but that you will shine.”

Quentin Crisp

I try not to do the hero thing but he was wandering around with long hair dyed scarlet and wearing sandals to show off his painted toenails in the 1930's – 19 fucking 30's when women weren't going out looking like that – now that's what I call a real man :-)

When I was 15 I was on a youth club camping trip to the Isle Of White and found "The Wedding Album" in a record shop I spent virtually all my spending money on it and then had to wait a week before I could play it. I could not have picked a better album not to play as it was a box set with only one record but in the box was :- a copy of the wedding certificate, a picture of a piece of wedding cake, a 'bed in' postcard, a double sided poster of wedding photographs, 2 drawings of the wedding by John and Yoko and a book of press cuttings.
